What are the benefits of cow dung?
Cow’s excreta is considered as gold by the Indian farmers. Cow dung referred to as ‘Gobar’ in Hindi has high micro-organismic value and is considered an important fertilizer. It is known to improve the soil structure leading to fertility and increase in the water and nutrient holding capacity of the soil. It promotes the soil’s microbial activity and thus improves nutrient level thereby assisting the plant growth. Cow dung sometimes mixed with straw is dried, lit and used as a flame for cooking. It plays an important role in the sacred havans and pooja yagyas.
What are the uses of cow urine?
Gomutra or cow urine has been used since the ancient times under Ayurveda for curing numerous ailments such as fever, ulcer, anaemia, leprosy and cancer. Gomutra of the pregnant cow contains special minerals. In Hinduism, it is considered of great importance because of the belief that it purifies everything on which it is sprinkled. It has been accepted as a medicinal drink by the Hindus and is considered as a super medicine. Gomutra is used to produce natural fertilizer, insect repellants, and other useful farming products. It is also used for floor cleaning and is available in the market with the name Gaunyle.
How is cow milk beneficial?
Cow milk is a wholesome food for all age groups including men, women, kids, and adults. Cow’s milk when consumed in different forms such as curd, ghee, buttermilk, paneer, yoghurt, etc. offers a whole set of unique benefits. This milk is considered highly beneficial as it is rich in nine essential amino acids, calcium, vitamin B12, vitamin D, phosphorus, and magnesium. It strengthens immune system, bones, and muscles, increases brain power, reduces acidity, repairs damaged cells and keeps heart healthy. It is used as a base for many ayurvedic medicines.
Is cow important for the environment?
Pouring one spoon of pure ghee on burning cow dung produces a high level of oxygen and helps in removing air pollution by killing germs. Deforestation can be controlled to a large extent by using biogas produced from cow dung. If done right, approximately 6.0 crore tons of firewood can be saved every year. It is stated in the ancient scriptures that the “Suryaketu” nerve present on the cow’s back purifies the atmosphere by absorbing the harmful radiations.
What is cow’s contribution to Ayurveda?
Panchgavya, a mixture of cow’s milk, curd, ghee, dung, and urine posses the power to purify the body and mind of the intaker. The ghee prepared by using Panchgavya is called Panchgavya Ghrita (PG). Immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory activity of Panchgavya has been mentioned in Ayurveda.
